Sterilite File Crate, Stackable Plastic Storage Bin with Handles, Organize Files at Home, Garage, Office, School, Black, 6-Pack
$ 2.03
These are hands-down the best crates for quality, style, and (almost) price. Buy them now.If you need a little more convincing…Be careful of the cheaper Sterilite file crates that don’t have the circle-shaped side cutouts. This version (16939006) is the best of all crates on the market and on the lower end of price spectrum as well. You can stack these top-to-bottom, as well as side-to-side (e.g. create a bookshelf). MOST OTHERS WON’T stack side-to-side. Each way you can stack it has tabs or grooves to lock into position (versus cheaper ones that don’t lock into place on side-to-side configurations).Another reviewer complained about the price of these crates. I can understand, but they were spoiled due to getting an awesome deal. These nicer ones go for about $7 tax at a certain superstore retailer, so Amazon is 5 bucks high right now ($50 for 6 instead of about $45 after tax in a store). Amazon apparently does do (or has had) sales where they went down into the $30-dollar range on these nicer ones. However, it’s worth the extra 5 bucks for me not to wait in line and haul these monsters home (they rarely have this many in stock anyway). Just bite the bullet and get the good ones here & now, you won’t regret it. They are worth it at this price ($50).Ideal uses:-File folders (can easily replace an expensive file cabinet and is better because you can haul a single crate anywhere and sort through it)-Bookshelves (put them on their side and stack them to fit your space)-Raw papers (I store reams of legal docs too large to put in individual file folders with a fancy colored-sheet to separate and they fit great)-Kid-stuff organizersThese are sturdy and handle being filled to the brim with paper. I have some as old as 5 years that are still like new and take heavy use.Once you’ve used a file crate, whether this model or not, you’ll never go back. The modular aspect is a game-changer:1) You can take just what you need into your living room or put it into your car.2) Each crate can keep a different category of stuff (vs. just 3 or 4 drawers to choose from in a file cabinet)3) You can keep the most frequently used crates on top / near at hand4) You can stack/configure the crates to suit your space/whim (vs. a gigantic file cabinet – these can be put in tight cubby holes, under desks, in closets)5) You can grow your storage as you need it (I add crates to my “bookshelf”, my legal cases, every new year of taxes, etc)6) You can use them for random needs in a pinch and haul it somewhere (the circles are small enough to keep most things inside, great for game system cables and discs, dvds, etc.)7) Dirt. Cheap.8) Lasts. Even the best quality boxes fail after moderate handling or age. Heaven help you if one gets wet. These babies are tuff.9) Even full they are manageable (think hauling around a huge heavy box / plastic tote full of paper vs. this smaller crate)The only reasons I can think of not to buy these at Amazon would be 1) color preference or 2) a requirement for sealed containment. They do come in variations such as purple in stores.Welcome to a better way of living. If you buy these, they will be the first of many. They are the kind of thing that is so useful you give them to friends as gifts.
